Bilingual education opens up the world!

At Schakel College, all students take part in bilingual education. This program focuses on:

  • Tweetalig onderwijs met een hoog niveau Nederlands en Engels, inclusief Cambridge-certificering
  • Bilingual education with a high standard of Dutch and English, including Cambridge certification.
  • Personal development into confident and capable global citizens with strong prospects for the future.

You will find bilingual education in every aspect of our school.

Some examples of this are:

  • Practical and International Learning
Students in Years 1 to 3 take part twice a year in TTO project weeks centered on current themes such as sustainability, entrepreneurship, and international collaboration. They work in English on research, presentations, and creative assignments. The weeks conclude with presentations for fellow students, teachers, and sometimes external partners.

  • Explore and Develop
Through Explore Activities, students choose modules based on their interests and talents. Using a credit-based system, they gradually build a personal portfolio. Activities range from music, art, and science to IT, debate, cooking, school band, and the Student Council.

  • International Experience
In Year 4, all students take part in an educational trip abroad. In addition, students in various year groups participate in online projects with international partners, with a strong focus on developing intercultural skills.

  • Language-Focused Education
In all lessons, attention is given to language development. Progress is made visible through can-do statements. In addition to English, other subjects are partly taught in English. All students take part in Cambridge exams.

  • Personal Development
Mentors actively guide students as coaches. They support independence, reflection, and personal growth, with attention to each individual student.

In this way, we connect language development with current events, internationalization, and personal growth.
