Dutch curriculum

There is also a group of students at our school for whom alignment with the Dutch curriculum remains important. They often enroll mid-term and/or emigrate back to the Netherlands before completing their studies.

For these students, the school has organized expertise regarding the Dutch curriculum and experience in managing transfers between schools to ensure this process is as smooth as possible.

Students following the Dutch curriculum at VWO and HAVO levels can choose to participate in the Dutch State Exam at the end of the fourth year.
The organization is managed by the Dutch State Examination Commission, and the exams are administered by examiners from the Netherlands in accordance with the BES Secondary Education Act.

The Dutch State Examination Commission determines the location for the exams. The school has no influence over this. Previously, exams took place on Bonaire. Since COVID-19, these exams can be administered at the school. We cannot guarantee that this will remain the case.

There are differences between the Aruban final exams and the Dutch State Exam. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages. Every year, changes occur that may increase or decrease these differences. Current information can be requested from the school principal.

For the Dutch curriculum, Schakel College is affiliated with the NOB Foundation
(Dutch Education Abroad) and therefore falls under the supervision of the Dutch Inspectorate of Education.

Students enrolled in the Dutch curriculum may also choose French as a subject. For years 1 through 3, they may then drop another language (Spanish or Papiamento).
